What flowers will be used at the coronation?
The exact flowers haven’t been revealed yet, but we can speculate as to which blooms might make an appearance.
- Delphiniums - These are very bright blue flowers that almost merge into purple in some lights. Definitely “out there” by coronation standards, but King Charles did once state that they are his favourite flowers. So, it stands to reason that we may well see them if he has his way.
- Alchemilla Mollis - A strange name, but this beautiful plant could feature strongly in King Charles III’s coronation flowers. Why? Because his wife Camilla absolutely adores them. Is this because the plant sounds similar to her name? Who knows, but she loves the bright greenness they provide, so don’t be surprised if they do turn up.
- Lily of the Valley - A beautiful white flower that blooms wonderfully during this time of year. Aside from being gorgeous, these flowers were loved by Queen Elizabeth II. We firmly believe that some homage to the late Queen will be included in the flower arrangements during the Coronation.
- The Queen’s Coronation bouquet - There is a strong possibility that we see an identical bouquet to the one at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Alongside the lily of the valley, we saw orchids from England and Wales, with carnations from Northern Ireland and stephanotis from Scotland. It was done to represent the British Isles - and was replicated when Kate and William got married many decades later. Could we see a third appearance? It certainly isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.
