How to Make a Christmas Wreath

A Christmas wreath is an iconic decoration for this time of year, but if you can’t find the perfect wreath for your front door, why not make your own? Crafting your own foliage Christmas wreath gives you the freedom to use any greenery of your choice, plus add festive accessories of your choice, making it truly unique.

Step by Step Christmas Wreath Making Guide

What you need:

  • Twig wreath ring
  • Secateurs
  • Twine
  • Wire
  • Foliage of your choice
  • Accessories of your choice
  • Wide Ribbon

Step 1 – Laying Your Foliage Foundation

First of all, you need to create the base for your foliage Christmas wreath using your twig wreath ring, foliage and twine. It is recommended you cut your foliage stems between 8-15cm long, group together 3 or 4 different lengths of foliage and tie them tightly to your ring with twine.

TOP TIP: Lay your bunches diagonally across the wreath ring and work in a clockwise fashion to keep it all facing in the same direction.

Step 2 – Make Sure There Are No Gaps

Once you have finished step one, go over your wreath again but with smaller pieces of foliage. Fill in all the gaps you see and make sure you check your design from every angle so you can guarantee you have achieved the perfect wreath shape. If you have any moss, this is a great way to make sure all spaces are filled.

Step 3 – Adding Your Accessories

Here comes the fun part; just like decorating your Christmas tree, you can decorate your wreath with your chosen accessories. Whether you chose dried grasses, pinecones, holly and berries, or baubles, this is where the wire comes in handy. Wire each element individually and place them securely and evenly around your wreath. Watch your masterpiece come to life!

Step 4 – The Final Touches

Finally, it’s time to tie some ribbon around the top for hanging. Whether it’s going on your front door, your living room door, across your cupboards or in the middle of the room, we’re sure it will look great and will carry on looking great throughout the Christmas period.
