A Guide to the Different Types of Preserved Grass

Preserved grasses make wonderful accent pieces, either alone or incorporated into bouquets and arrangements, which is why they’ve been steadily rising in popularity over the past couple of years.

We’ve put together a quick guide to some of the most popular types of preserved grass available to buy today.

Pampas Grass

Pampas grass is a tall, fluffy, flowering grass that in the wild, can grow up to six metres tall. This ornamental grass brings an elegant, natural look to homes and businesses, whether they’re used as part of an arrangement or on their own.

In some countries, such as Australia, pampas grass is actually considered an invasive weed because of how adaptable it is to different environments and its ability to displace surrounding plants. In the UK, however, dried pampas grass has become one of the trendiest preserved grasses available to buy, due to its striking height and playful fluffiness.

Bunny Tail Grass

Aptly named, bunny tails are an ornamental grass with a small, fluffy head that resembles the tail of a bunny rabbit.

With soft, ivory white flowers, this delicate grass adds an interesting texture element to any arrangement or bouquet.

Billy Buttons (Craspedia)

Also known as billy balls, billy buttons are named after their cylindrical flower heads. This flowering plant is known broadly as a symbol for good health and is sometimes given as a gift to express that the recipient lights up the sender’s world.

Billy buttons are naturally yellow but can be dyed a range of different shade from bright red to deep black, like in our Midnight Bouquet.

Palm Spears

Trimmed from palm trees native to tropical and subtropical countries, palm spears are symmetrical, spear-shaped fronds that bring a relaxing, coastal feel to any room.

These showstoppers look equally stunning alone in tall vases or alongside other preserved grasses and flowers.
